BFF now underway
What a way to start
A massive THANK YOU to everyone that came down to the Festival Launch and Opening of the Sweet Ride Art Show curated by Ilana Russell on Thursday of last week. It was a super fun evening and everyone had a really great time – which bodes well for the next 2 weeks. A big thankyou also to Festival Patron Lawrence Leung for working the crowds into a bicycle lovin’ frenzy. Check out some photos from the event . Or have a look at these ones on the Beat website. Sweet Ride is open everyday until 29 November at our Festival Hub, 1000 £ Bend so get on down there!

The weekend also saw the first of our satellite events, the Local Shorts screenings at Human Powered Cycles. Check out some images from the event. We are pleased to say that all 4 sessions were at capacity and everyone had a great time. Thanks to all of the Local Filmmakers that came along and introduced their movie – we want to encourage everyone to submit to the BFF global call for entries, due Feb 2010. We are also pleased to announce that the local shorts program will be screening on the Bicycle Victoria members night of the Great Victorian Bike Ride at Port Campbell on the 1st December. These films are really moving.

Sometimes there are parties that you hear about for years afterwards. They offer an eternal source of amusement, embarassment and if they are really good - indelible physical reminders for a long time after the last bottle has been recycled and corn chip decomposed to an orange MSG halo on your front porch. Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, we think that the Ring of Fire party at Pony Bikes this weekend could just be one of those events. The next in the BFF high five of satellite events, the Ring of Fire party features a Bogan’s Day Out Alleycat, Wheels of Death Roller Racing, Bunnyhop, Footdown and hours of entertainment for all. Not for the faint of heart, weary of spirit or idiotic of temperament. Ok? All riders entering activities accept responsibility for themselves and their bikes.

Those of you that have been before know the BFF Film Screenings are a popular night out. We sold out screenings last year even when a hurricane threatened to rip the roof off the building and necessitated walking at an angle 45 degrees to the ground. What can we say, bike riders are dedicated folks. We anticipate that screenings this year WILL SELL OUT, so be sure to do the sensible thing and BOOK ONLINE IN ADVANCE to avoid being turned away. You can do it in less than 5 minutes right here. Choose your session, click the BUY TICKETS button then just click on the TIME of the session, select your ticket and you are A WINNER (in our books).

Here at the BFF we love nifty things. Not only for the fact that they inspire us to use the word ‘nifty’, but also because they are nifty. Melbourne BFF Sponsor Knog know all about niftyness. Their product range incorporates everything from hats to bags to t-shirts to tools to gloves to our favourite – lights. Those Knog lights are, what can i say.., nifty. Knog are also a big supporter of Melbourne Bike Polo, presenters of BFF Satellite Event – the Australian Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships on Sat 28 & Sun 29 November AND BFF Partners Bicycles for Humanity, who collect unwanted bikes and ship them to Africa. You can donate an old bike or parts to Bicycles for Humanity at the B.est F.riends F.orever Street Party on Sunday 29 November. Nifty huh?
