“Now for November” with Human Powered Cycles

It really feels like not so long ago I was typing out the last newsletter. Another month must have flown by and now we find ourselves in the thick of the cycling season… “wow!”
We’ve had a stack of recent events plunging us into the deep end. I’m talking bike swap meets, Blessing of the Bike, Around the Bay and of course trusty old Ride to Work Day… “what a blast!”
Oh yes, another fun gig in October was the Go Bike festival. We spent some time down there showcasing the Gazelle …

Closed for Melbourne Cup Day

We’ll be open Saturday and Monday (31st October/2nd November) and closed on Tuesday 3rd October.
Enjoy the sun and don’t forget about the Bicycle Film Festival fast approaching!

We’ll be running two nights of Local Shorts supporting the film making efforts of local artists. The screenings will be Friday and Saturday the 13th and 14th of November. Stay tuned for details or contact us to for more info or to volunteer your assistance!

A perfectly timed October newsletter

Hi everyone, Welcome to another month! I’ve been holding off sending out this newsletter hoping to catch word of as many coming bike events as possible. I’ve finally given in and am sending this out as it is.

Ride to Work Day was a blast

Wednesday 14th October…
Ok folks, here are the offerings we’ve got for the day…

Number one// At headquarters, 7am-9am, we’ll be serving free tea or coffee to all cyclists as well as free bike tuning. The mechanics will be there to answer any nitty gritty bike questions you’ve got… just watch out, they may be buzzing from too much free coffee!! (Headquarters is 562 High Street Thornbury. Heres a map too.)

Plus I’ve uploaded photos of the “Human Powered Cycles official team”… with a big thanks to Alex 7.0 who joined the team as Val had to go and walk his dog. (We take our bike racing very seriously!)

High Vibes 2009

With a great mix of bands playing at more than 20 venues, new live and local music stages, delicious food plus a Kids Zone for the little people, the 9th annual High Vibes festival is a seriously unmissable event.
This day long festival is also a once a year opportunity to enjoy High St as you rarely see it – the street closed to traffic, pulsing with up to 80,000 people all enjoying the diverse music, food and entertainment on offer.

We need a mechanic!

Applications now closed
Applications are now open for a full time mechanic position.
Position title: bicycle mechanic
Employment type: Permanent full time
Applicants must have a strong background and experience in the role of bicycle mechanic and the ability to work in a team.
The position is primarily based in the workshop on servicing and repairs and setup of new/second hand bikes.
On the job training and TAFE level training/qualification may be available in the position however a bicycle industry background is required.

Upcoming Human Powered social events

Dinner gathering
You are invited to the next Human Powered Cycles (and Cafe!) friends,
customers and staff get together.
Where: Bar Fred, 797 Nicholson St Carlton North
When: 7pm onwards, Thursday 16th July.
Bar Fred does great pizza and a huge range of local and imported beers.
RSVP: not needed, but reply by email if you have any questions.
