ISO Taper Bottom Brackets

12 July 2010 Posted by joel One Comment

For a while we’ve been looking for good quality ISO taper bottom brackets which are more affordable then a Phil, not that there is anything wrong with Phil Wood they do make the best of the best, but we know not everyone can afford one.

Well dust off your old Stronglight or Sugino 75 cranks at last we’ve found something that measures up. The Miche Primato and Primato Evolight bottom brackets.

The Primato uses flange-less cups so it is excellent for  micro chainline adjustment (just like a Phil)  and so will require a mild thread locking compound on installation (also just like a Phil).

The Primato Evolight bottom bracket has flanged cups and an alloy body and is considerably lighter but doesn’t allow for micro chainline adjustment.

For the DIYers out there, both use a Campagnolo splined installation tool and should be tightened to 35 newton metres

I used to run a Miche groupset, but found the bottom brackets very unreliable. I switched to a TA bottom bracket which come in length increments of 2mm, and can also be micro-adjusted.
More recently I’ve been using campagnolo BB’s – they’re far more reliable than Miche or TA, and can be rebuilt unlike the Miche. I find the extra cost for the Campagnolo is worth it.
Whereas I used to get one year from a disposable Miche, I now get 2-3 before the Campagnolo needs a rebuild! Only catch is campag come in 102, 111, and 115mm lengths.
    Good Luck!
