High quality wheel building requires knowledge, experience and the right tools. Building custom wheels has a number of benefits including longevity, reliability and getting wheels that are right for the application.
This starts with choosing appropriate hubs, spokes and rims for the application. We build wheels ranging from particularly lightweight, competition-ready wheels; heavy duty touring wheels; gear hub rear wheels; dynamo hub front wheels and also classic wheels with new old stock or refurbished components.
We can discuss intended usage with you to work towards the most suitable wheels to match your budget.
This intended usage affects the build technique. In general, we recommend 3-cross lacing patterns and brass nipples. The additional weight is negligible and the additional strength is worthwhile. For heavy duty applications we’ll most likely recommend thread locked nipples (either Spoke Freeze or Pro Lock). Oversize spoke holes through hub flanges may need spoke head seating washers.

- Our normal spoke stock includes DT Swiss spokes: Champion straight gauge (mainly for repairing damaged wheels) , Competition double butted (suited to most custom builds), and Alpine III triple butted (for load carrying, touring and other extreme applications).
- We carry a range of Velocity, Mavic and Sun rims.
- We also carry a range of our most popular Shimano, Phil Wood, Schmidt etc hubs
As long as we’re in agreement up front that the wheel will be suitable for the application, we offer a one year warranty.
Build your own
We can also provide advice and parts to assist you to build your own wheels. We can for a small fee perform spoke length measurements. Contact us for details!
